Tree of the Dead: 25 Bagged and Bludgeoned Cats Found in New York

Everyone knows that one of the first signs of a potential serial killer is that they mutilate, torture and kill animals before moving onto prey that could potentially fight back. It seems that there may be one or more such individuals in Yonkers, New York. Authorities discovered around 25 cats that were beaten to death in the head, placed in plastic bags and hung in a tree around a half a mile from the Bronx.

Authorities were baffled and shocked to say the least. Westchester SPCA Ernest Lungaro stated that, "We have found, in the past, cases where cats were poisoned, but we've never seen anything where they're killing them this violently." Authorities also announced that they found a baseball bat, a metal pipe and two shovels not far from the tree where the cats were hung, but further investigation is needed to determine if they were involved in the killings.

Police officers and SCPA officials are still trying to determine the person or persons involved with this horrific slaughter as well as if the cats were all feral or if they were pets. It has been determined that these cat murders have been going on for some time. Some of the cats discovered had been dead only three or four days, while others were little more than skeletons.

While police investigate, Alley Cat Allies based out of Maryland offer a $750 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of the guilty parties.
